Conference venue

Utrecht University 's facilities are located at two separate sites.

The City Centre: Two large departments (the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Arts) are located in the university quarter in Utrecht city centre.

De Uithof: All the other faculties are located to the east of the city, on the University campus (De Uithof), whose architectural features draw the attention of enthusiasts from all over the world. The University Board, the central administration and most supporting services are also on this campus.

he conference will take place both in the city centre and at the University Campus De Uithof.

Wednesday June 28 2006: Registration and Opening Session

On Wednesday afternoon, registration will begin at 12.00 hrs at the Academic Building (Domplein 29)

in the city centre of Utrecht . Please use this possibility to register in order to avoid long queues during registration on Thursday morning.

The opening session will start at 14.30 hrs. After the opening session, you will be able to meet and catch up with your colleagues during a “get together reception”.

Thursday June 29 - Saturday July 1 2006 : The Conference Itself

The conference will be held in the Educatorium (Leuvenlaan 21) at the university campus (De Uithof). Throughout the conference there will be a registration and information desk in the central hall of the Marinus Ruppert Building , that is located next to, and linked with a corridor to the educatorium.

 

How to get to Utrecht

Utrecht is easy to reach as it is centrally situated in The Netherlands and lies at the hub of the Dutch motorway and railway networks. Utrecht also offers air travellers good road and rail connections.

Amsterdam Airport to Utrecht
The best way to travel from Schiphol Airport to Utrecht is by train. Tickets can be purchased from the ticket office or vending machines at Schiphol station. Please be advised that, in the Netherlands , return tickets are valid for one day only. Trains to Utrecht run on two routes:

At Utrecht Central Station there are local and regional buses, as well as taxis, to take you to your final destination.

By Taxi
If you phone the Utrecht Taxi Company (UTC) in advance (+31 30 230 0400) a taxi will be waiting for you when you arrive at the airport. However, it will cost approximately €50 (price rate 2004). If you call UTC from Schipol Airport then you will have to wait approximately 40 minutes for a taxi.

How to get around in Utrecht

By Bus and Tram
Both buses and trams operate within Utrecht . To use them you will need to purchase a "strippenkaart". This is a zone-card that should be stamped every time you get on a bus or tram. For travel within the centre of Utrecht (one zone) you will need to stamp 2 strips. From the centre to the university campus, De Uithof (two zones) you will need to stamp 3 strips. A card with 15 strips costs approximately €5.90 (price rate 2004).

From Central Station to Academy building
Bus route 2, departing from the central railway station, calls at the Dom square. Bus routes 3,5,9 and 11 call at the Janskerkhof. It is only a few minutes walk to the Dom square from here (see the map of the city centre below).
You can also walk directly from the central railway station to the Academiegebouw. This takes approximately 15 minutes. You can find the best route on our map of the city centre below.
It's also possible to take a taxi from the central railway station.

By Car
From junction "Rijnsweerd" follow the signs to Amersfoort/Zeist
Take exit "De Bilt/De Uithof
At the stop sign, turn left and drive south on "Universiteitsweg"
The second road to the right is Leuvenlaan. Please park in the car park on your left-hand side in front of the Marinus Ruppert Building (entrance at the far end). The cost for parking is approximately €2.20 (price rate 2004) per day.
